- Call to Order:
Chairman McCarty, noting that a quorum was present, called the meeting to order at approximately 1840 hours.
- Approval of Minutes and Review of Monthly Reports
- A Motion was made by Chairman McCarty to approve the Minutes of the Commission's monthly meetings held on February 1, 2005, February 2, 2005 and March 1, 2005. The Motion was seconded by Commissioner Healy approved 2 to 0.
- The Commission reviewed the Deputy Chief's report dated April 4, 2005 and the attached Volunteer Participation report. Chief Milositz advised the Commission that all shifts were concentrating on Truck 5 driver training and as well as set up and operations drills. The Chief also reported that Captain Cesareo announced his retirement effective July 2005 and that Captain Jim Gies has joined the Training Committee which is comprised of Chief Milositz, Deputy Chief Peters, Lt. Czarnecki and Firefighter Carlson. Chief Milositz noted with thanks Lt. Czarneicki and Firefighter Carlson working with Volunteer Firefighters Weeks and Dunn at the residential house fire on Wilton Acres.
- The Commission reviewed the Fire Marshal's Monthly Report for March 2005, which report noted the aforementioned residential fire. Fire Marshal Kohn advised the Commission that Fire Inspector Meehan returned to duty from back surgery. Mr. Kohn reported that the Department participated in the Kidfest at Wilton Field House and that Lt. Greg Kitik had spent considerable amount of his time during the month of March preparing 6 to 8 Boy Scouts for their Emergency Preparedness merit badge. Discussion followed regarding Code Enforcement Fee Schedules.
- Old Business
- Budget for fiscal year 2006 - Chief Milositz reported that the Department's operations budget had been reduced by approximately $10,000 when some funding for communications was moved to the Police Department's budget for the Communications Center. Chief Milositz reported that the Department's capital budget had been modified by the Board of Selectmen as follows: (i) one of the two staff vehicles requested by the Department has been cut and the second will be leased versus purchased; (ii) the requested lift has been cut; (iii) $250,000 request for renovations to Station 1 has been cut (the renovations have been referred to the Council on Public Facilities) and (iv) CAD software was cut.
- New Business
- Utility 6 - Chief Milositz reported that Utility 6 is tentatively scheduled to arrive at the Department on or about April 11, 2005.
- Dispatch - Chief Milositz reported that the Department had completed its information gathering for input into the Dispatch Center's CAD system. Police Officer Muth is attending to the input.
- Adjournment: At approximately 1905 hours, upon motion duly made and seconded, the meeting was adjourned.
The next regular meeting of the Commission will be held on May 3, 2005 at Fire Department Headquarters.
