Firefighters
Our line personnel consists of 23 career firefighers and 8 volunteer members who have dedicated themselves and their time to the protection of the Town of Wilton against fires and other disasters. Our career firefighters consist of 4 Captains, 4 Lieutenants, and 15 Firefighters. Our volunteer staff consists of 2 Lieutenants and 6 Firefighters.
We have staff members stationed at our headquarters and other remote stations located throughout the town 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, always ready to respond.
Training is held on Tuesday nights at Fire Headquarters.
Becoming a Wilton Volunteer Firefighter
The Wilton Fire Department is always looking for new members. If you're interested in the fire service, we can help you obtain the training you need to be a vital contribution to the Wilton community.
Men and women aged 18 or over who live or work in Wilton are eligible to join.
All new members who are not certified in the fire service are required to obtain Firefighter I before being allowed to participate in any fire suppression activities. Firefighter I entails approximately 156 hours of classroom and practical work and final written and practical exams that leads to certification. Volunteers who are not interested in becoming line firefighters may also apply for membership filling support roles.
All volunteer members are required to attend drills, which are generally held Tuesday nights and respond to at least 25 percent of all alarms on their shifts.
If you're interested in obtaining an application, stop by Fire Headquarters anytime. You may also contact us at 203-834-6246 or e-mail wiltonfire@wiltonct.org. Put "Volunteer Membership" in the subject line.
