Press Release: Travel Safety: Know Your Hotel
With winter travel season upon us and school breaks just around the corner, the Wilton Fire Department would like to remind residents to familiarize themselves with hotel and restaurant fire safety when they are away from home. Ten areas of concern which customers should observe are:
- Fire Sprinklers: Can you see sprinkler heads or covers in the ceilings? If in doubt, ask; they are your front line of protection during a fire.
- Exit Lights: They should be visible near each exit and in every hallway leading to an exit unless the building has a generator.
- Exits: Are they clear of obstructions both inside and out? They should be marked indoors with a visible sign. Know two ways out should an emergency arise.
- Fire Extinguishers: Are they visible and well maintained?
- Smoke and Detectors: You should find them in every hotel and motel room. If you hear an alarm sound, leave immediately. Don’t wait for instructions. Don’t assume an alarm is false.
